Spring teaser

You can see a tiny white strip in the upper centre of the photograph taken from the front of my property this morning. That's a ski hill. The only clean looking patch of white around right now. Everywhere else, grass and mud show through the remains of dirty drifts.

We've had a sudden thaw... three days of above zero temperatures have left a mess behind along with the tease of an early spring. This afternoon we expect snow flurries and a sudden freeze again. In the meantime, I'm going to get out and clean up some of the detritus of winter that the melted snow has left for us. Thank goodness for this morning the sun is high. So is the wind which makes it cooler than you'd expect. But for now I'll take it.

The skiers will love the spring skiing. The snowmaking machines have contributed ten to twenty feet of snow on the hills, so while there might be one or two bare spots, mostly it will be fun in the sun racing down the hills today for them, work in the sun for many of us trying to get a head start on spring clean-up, but still in the sun.

Tonight winter returns with a vengeance - high winds and snow...

It has been a strange winter this year. Many days without sun. Usually it's only November and February that's gray but this year it's been almost every day.

So here's to a short stint of winter for the next few weeks, and spring coming quickly. Hope you can enjoy your day wherever you are and whatever you're doing, you just never know what's around the corner!

  1. I feel bad that you have to take another round of winter :( Are you still planning to get the skis out? If you do be safe and stay warm...I suggest staying in with a nice cup of cocoa lol! Beautiful photo!
