Starting out for an amble around the property yesterday morning I came across this strange looking hole in an insect bole on a dried piece of goldenrod.
Looking around I saw more similar holes.
Then I heard the familiar "bek bek."
And saw this up the nearby tree: A female downie woodpecker.
She had been busy at several of the little winter homes on the remaining stocks of wildflowers in the pasture. Amazing!
